Townsend Garden Club "This is the place to learn gardening in Montana from club members that garden here!"

President - Melinda Vennard

The Townsend Garden Club was organized and federated on June 18, 1954. Members support various community projects, including

  • planting and care of Gwen's garden in Massa Park
  • planting flower barrels in town
  • landscaping the Townsend welcome rock on Highway 187
  • a summer flower show
  • participation in the county fair and parade
  • sponsoring a "native plant" walk/identification
  • Mother's Day plant sale held (the Saturday before) to raise funds for a Broadwater County student scholarship
  • senior gardening therapy
  • Blue Bird trail
  • Museum Festival at Christmas time.

The Townsend Garden Club initiated a Blue Star Memorial Marker project for Veterans Park. Members and American Legion Post #42 raised funds to install the Marker, flowers and beautiful cement work pictured below.

Pictured below are gardens toured at the 1st Annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Townsend Garden Club. Eight varied gardens were included in the tour. They ranged from the new Blue Star Memorial at Veterans Park, the Court House native plant landscaping, raised garden beds to vegetable gardens, native landscapes and Brian Flynn's Private Stock Perennials business.

Meetings are held at 1:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month at St. John's Episcopal Church, 314 North Cedar, Townsend. Membership is open to everyone. Come meet with people who like to garden! Please contact Pauline Webb (266-5383), Marilyn Lane, Mary Olsen (266-5695) or Ruth Layton (266-5376) for membership information.

The Townsend Garden Club's new cookbook compiled from member's recipes is pictured below -- a wonderful way to fund our community projects!
