National Garden Week

June 5

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 12:00am, repeating until June 10, 2017

Leap into Action and make plans to celebrate National Garden Week. Share the value and efforts of garden clubs with your community! Promote the National Garden Club objectives of beautification, education of environmental efforts, and gardening. Encourage citizens of your community to be involved in the efforts of garden clubs. This week is an opportunity to promote pride in our communities, interest new members, and work with other groups to be part of those efforts. The NGC Proclamation is available on the gardenclub.org website.

Here’s what you can do:

Organize an educational program open to the public.
Promote an environmental, gardening or landscape workshop for your community.
Collaborate with a school (young or older students) – either teaching some aspect of good environmental, gardening or landscape practices, etc., presenting a program, or giving plants or information sheets away to students & teachers.
Have a program and invite other gardening-related organizations to participate in a program.
Have an open garden day of members with teaching at each garden.
Plan a work day (outdoors) at a non-profit center – library, rest home, school, or government building such as the courthouse, etc.
Volunteer at a Habitat for Humanity house (or similar non-profit) to do some outdoor cleanup/planting.
Present an environmental, gardening or landscape program at a school or nursing home
Invite gardening friends – (not necessarily MFGC members) to your garden and teach them about how your garden works – or does not work – problems and good environmental, gardening and landscape solutions, etc.
Write an article on any of these subjects for your local newspaper and your club, district, council, state or region newsletters.
Help a neighbor/friend who needs guidance or help in their garden or yard.
