Glendive Garden Club Report for 2022

The Glendive Garden Club usually meets the first Friday of the month at a member’s home or a public place.  January is set aside for yearbook planning for the year. Meeting time is 1:30 PM. We have many events planned for this year which provide a broad range of information to interested gardeners. The programs are planned to expand our knowledge and to help us with our civic endeavors.

The Glendive Garden Club is actively involved in several beautification projects throughout the community.

The club was instrumental in establishing the Priscilla Hudson Garden at Lloyd Square Park. Priscilla was a member and great horticulturist of our garden club. She was the driving force behind the idea of this hillside area of the park. In 1967, with the help of the local Jaycees, the garden was born.  In recent years we have added an arbor and memorial stepping stones.

Additionally, we furnish the plants for seven large planters around the public library and a large brick planter (Glendive Welcomes You) that was built by the City of Glendive and partially funded with a Petal Grant.  We also plant, water and maintain a large dinosaur planter at the Eastern Plains Event Center and water other pots located there.  In 2020 we installed a Blue and Gold Star marker at the Veteran’s Memorial Park.  Landscaping plans are in the works along with maintenance.  We place a Veteran Memorial wreath near the markers for Veteran holidays.

April we start our “Welcome Spring Contest” where we offer prize money for the first daffodil and first tulip making an appearance in peoples yards. ($10, $7, $5 each)

Our annual plant and bake sale held in May raises funds for our community projects.

We also have enjoyed tours to various nurseries, gardens and other places of interest.

July is our picnic month. We host a garden tour every other year usually in July.

September is our fun meeting where we do a craft project at a member’s home.

For the past few years we have decorated pumpkins with succulents and other materials to sell at our Harvest Festival in October.

Making Christmas arrangements is the highlight of our December meeting along with a delicious potluck lunch.

We donate to 4-H, the Senior All Nighter, a couple youth clubs and to Penny Pines. We help purchase flowers for other beautification projects.
